10 session CBT course

In 2007, Tess Moffat Sosa devised a treatment for anxiety that she has successfully used with hundreds of patients since then. It is a CBT course, considered the gold standard for treating anxiety.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) has been around for decades, and research has proven its effectiveness in treating anxiety. Traditionally, it has been utilised by psychologists in individual therapy, but there are significant benefits to running groups where cognitive and behavioural tools are not only taught but also practised.

CBT is based on the premise that the reason we feel anxious is because of what we tell ourselves. Interestingly, most of what we tell ourselves is erroneous and causes fear. By changing our cognitions to more realistic ones, the fear dissipates. CBT also posits that the way we behave influences how we feel, and by changing behaviours, we teach our bodies to enter a relaxed state, allowing us to feel calmer.

The key to change is knowledge, practice, and integration. Otherwise, the tools remain a concept and do not translate into real benefits. It is like a person who needs to lose weight and learns what promotes weight loss but never implements the techniques suggested. And let’s face it who actually practises alone at home?

Research has shown that for real and lasting change to take place, a new thought or behaviour needs to be repeated for a minimum of 12 weeks.

Take The First Step To A Better Quality Of Life

Session one

In this session participants learn about anxiety and CBT . They are also taught an easy relaxation technique which is practised every session thereafter. The magic of this course, and it is unique to me, is a four step process whereby participants learn to quickly identify their erroneous thoughts and destructive behaviours and to challenge and change them This worksheet  is filled out and a volunteer shares it every week. This is very powerful as groups members learn from one another and feel less alone in their struggles.

Session two- eleven inclusive

Every week, a different tool is taught and workshopped so that it is truly understood and assimilated by the participants.

Session twelve
